Administrator Anne Ferro of the FMCSA has put in her letter of resignation on July 25. She's planning on leaving the FMCSA sometime at the end of August, but has not announced on which day. She will resume her career as President and CEO with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), They claim she will began her tenure there on August 25th. The AAMVA is a non profit organization that interacts with government agencies to promote vehicular safety.
I expect that members of the trucking community will not miss Anne Ferro, as she may be revered as a great leader by her superiors and anti trucking lobbyist, we in the trucking industry have felt bitter about the changes she made, forcing drivers to work under unsuitable conditions. She was viewed by most drivers as a bully and ruled by force without the utmost concern for the well being of drivers and have seen an 18% increase in truck related fatalities during her time as Administrator for the FMCSA.
We may like to celebrate this moment in hopes for a more trucking inclusive administrator that may rule with finesse as opposed to force, however MAP21 is not an Anne Ferro agenda it's a White House agenda. One may wonder who or what kind of person President Obama may want to appoint as administrator for the FMCSA, considering his usual bold approach to how he attempts to achieve his goals. We will know in good time, until then trucking will resume as business as usual.
Here is an excerpt from Anne Ferro's email to her colleagues:
“I certainly am proud to have served as your administrator. You are professionals united in a single mission — to save lives — and I encourage you to continue to rely on each other’s strengths and redouble your energy toward that highest of goals.”
I would like for you to notice that she has referred to them as "UNITED in a single mission." That's what it takes to make change. We as drivers must stop fighting among ourselves and become united as an industry, and be there for each other, in order to create our strengths as a whole.
